Austin is Two Months

At two months, Austin is not only completely adorable...

he is also quite smiley and happy, giving us a few laughs here and there.

He also already loves cranes.

And, he loves...loves...staring at ceiling fans.

And we are all totally in love with him.

We are having so much fun with little Austin. He's sweet and adorable and a total, total cuddle bug! Overall, he is a pretty easy baby. These days he only fusses when he is hungry or tired or just wants to be held. Between weeks two and four he had some fussy moments, but not so much any more. And, looking back, those fussy days could have been because he wasn't feeling well...that was during the time when we were all sick. He is easy-going, sweet, alert, happy, and curious. All pretty awesome traits at two months, if you ask me.

Just this week he realized he has hands. It's so cute to watch him examine his hands and try to figure out what these things are and what they do. And, tonight, while laying on his activity mat, he reached up and grabbed onto one of his toys. These are all signs that he is transitioning from newborn to actual baby.

I've been swaddling him at night to help him sleep, and sometimes I'll swaddle him during the day if he needs that extra help to fall asleep. He is still eating every three hours on average. He'll have one or two two-hour stretches during the day, and the last three nights, he's had one five-hour stretch (yea for Mommy!). A few weeks ago, he did sleep for almost seven hours...but hasn't done it again. Austin sticks to the same routine pretty much every day--eat, play for an hour to two hours, then sleep until he's ready to eat again. Over and over, that's what we do.

Cooper is still doing fantastic with Austin! He loves his little brother so much and it makes my heart happy to see his pure and genuine love. On a daily basis, I hear Coop tell Austin "I love you, Baby Austin." or "Aww... Austin, you so tiny and cute.". He wants to help do everything with and for Austin: rocking him, changing his diaper, checking on him. Coop even gives lots of love pats and kisses to Austin throughout the day, too. And you can already see the love in Austin's eyes for his big brother. His little eyes light up and he just watches and stares at Coop.

Two month check up stats:
12 pounds 2 ounces
23 3/4" long
(3 ounces less than Coop and 3/4" taller)

All By Myself

I hear this a lot these days..."I do it all by myself." I hear it when a certain three-year-old wants to pick out his own clothes or get his own drink or wash his own hands or brush his own teeth. But the other day, I heard it in regards to something I hadn't imagined--cleaning up the playroom...all by himself. With absolutely no prompting from me, either. I was getting lunch ready and I could hear him in the playroom, but I just thought he was playing. He came into the kitchen, grabbed my hand, and said he wanted to show me something. He led me into the playroom and exclaimed, "I cleaned the playroom all by myself!!" And, boy did he!!

He was so proud of himself, too!

Wiping his hands clean, "All finished!"

For the record, this is normally what our playroom looks like...on a good day.

Meeting Santa

We went to Sammie's for lunch one Saturday afternoon, and Big Red just happened to be there. Our favorite BBQ AND Santa...wow. I wasn't sure how Cooper would react to Santa this year based on last year's experience. But, phew...when Cooper saw Santa he was wide-eyed and excited to meet him

He went right up to Santa and introduced himself, "I Cooper."

Serious discussions about Coop's age, where Santa's reindeer were, and what Cooper wanted for Christmas. Cooper told Santa he wanted a traffic light. (News to me!) And Santa said, and I quote, "I"ll make sure to bring you that traffic light, Cooper." with a little wink to me. Thanks, Santa!!

Austin was snugly asleep in the Moby, but we jumped in for a quick picture with Santa, too.

Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas!

My bestest friend and talented designer, Sarah Post, designed our cards again this year. I love that we were able to announce our sweet Austin and wish our friends and family a merry Christmas all in one card. Merry, Merry Christmas!!

Looking at Christmas Lights

I remember as a child how much fun it was to go look at Christmas lights every year. We did this in Brownwood and in Dallas, and I just remember how much I loved it and was amazed by all of those bright lights. It's something I've always been excited to do with my kids.

We've been trying to do fun Christmas activities with Cooper now that he understands Christmas a little more and knows to get excited about those special outings. Tonight we decided to head to a nearby neighborhood and check out the beautiful light displays. This is the same area of town that we would "tour" when I was little, so it was fun to take Cooper there, too. With most of these houses, no expense is spared when it comes to Christmas decor--lights, decorations, music, moving displays, nativity scenes, reindeer, nutcrackers and lots and lots of Santas!

When we told Cooper we were going to look at lights, he wasn't quite sure what to expect, so he didn't act excited initially. But once he saw all the twinkly lights and huge trees wrapped in blue, white or colored lights and all the characters in front yards, he was loving it! Several of the houses have displays where you can get out of your car and get a closer look. Coop really liked those houses!

This house was voted "Most Outstanding" in the neighborhood. It was like a candy land mansion. Lights everywhere, huge packages, Christmas jack-in-the-boxes, over-sized lollipops and candy canes, trees dripping in white and red lights. They even had a small candy land play house in the front yard. There were gates around the house, so we couldn't get close to anything, but it sure was amazing.

This picture is blurry, but totally makes me laugh. He was trying so hard to get inside that candy land!

Our last stop was a little gazebo. The last time I had been to this gazebo was with Philip. It was before we had kids, before we were married, even. At least nine years ago? It was Christmas time and we decided looked like a fun place to exchange our Christmas gifts. So we sat in the middle of the gazebo and exchanged gifts. It was fun to be back there, not only with Philip, but with one little guy running circles and the other little one wrapped up in my arms.

I'm looking forward to making this an annual tradition with my sweet boys.
