Welcome to the State Fair of Texas

With Baby Brother's arrival just around the corner, Philip, Cooper, and I made sure to have lots of fun family outings before our new little guy joined us. The State Fair had just opened, so we took advantage of the beautiful weather and headed out to see Big Tex and enjoy some corn dogs. We knew Cooper wouldn't last too long at the fair, and we wanted to leave before it got too crowded, so we picked a few things to check out that we knew Cooper would enjoy.

First stop...Big Tex. Cooper was super excited to see the "really big cowboy like Woody" and hear him talk. To this day, Coop will randomly start talking like Big Tex and say, "Howdy folk. Welcome to fair! Wash your hands!" Yep, wash your hands. We happened to hear Big Tex talk about washing your hands and using hand sanitizer. (I'm pretty sure he didn't say that when I went the fair as a child.)

Next stop...corn dogs! I told Philip that Coop and I would just split a corn dog, but Philip went ahead and bought us each our own, thinking he would finish whatever Coop didn't eat. (Ok...let's be honest. I knew I'd eat an entire corn dog, and heck, I would maybe even finish what Cooper didn't eat.) However, my little three-year-old totally devoured that corn dog. Not one single bite was left.

Next up...the butterfly exhibit. We ended up going through the butterfly exhibit twice. Coop liked seeing the butterflies up close and so badly wanted to touch them and chase them. But he had fun searching for them in all the greenery. Since the fair, each time we read The Hungry Caterpillar, Coop talks about the cocoons we saw and how butterflies come out.

Final stop...the dog show. I remember going to see the dog show with my dad when I was younger. It has always been one of my favorite things at the fair, so I was excited to see this with Cooper. Coop's favorite part of the show was watching the dogs run, jump up high to catch a toy and land in the pool. He was squeal and clap each time the dog splashed in the water. Parts of it were hard for him to see because the dogs move so quickly, but overall I think he liked it. He told me he was excited to teach Drake how to do those dog tricks, and the second we got home, he ran up to Drake and tried to get him to roll over. Coop even got on the floor and told Drake, "like this (while rolling) Drake. Ok, you do it!"

Oh, and bonus...he got to ride on a police motorcycle. Kind of an awesome way to wrap up a fun family outing!
