Today 10/11/2012

Today I loved sitting on the sidewalk with my boys, pretending we were building a campfire.  Coop came across a pile of sticks.  Heaven to a little boy!  And that began our campfire.  We sang songs about camping; we pretended to roast marshmallows and ate them; and we built a really big bonfire.  Austin was so cute with it all, too.  Sitting with Coop and I around the sticks, holding his own stick, and copying Coop and my every gesture: putting the stick over the "fire" to roast a marshmallow or waving his stick around as we were singing, pretending our sticks were conducting wands.

At one point, Austin handed me a big leaf, which I tucked behind my ear.  Apparently, that's pretty funny to an almost-one-year old, and he handed me another leaf and then tapped his head, like he was telling me to put it behind my ear with the other one.  I did, and he smiled and clapped.
I found a really long, bendy stick, which I shaped into the letter "C" and then made a "4" with some smaller sticks.  Coop instantly saw what I was doing and said, "Mom!  That's a GREAT idea!  Let's make our letters with the camping sticks!"  After several letters, however, I think they were maybe getting to be too abstract, because he moved on to making our stick letters into a big bonfire pile.

And then, it started to rain and we just sat there, singing away, and it was fabulous.
