Busy Day at the Fire Station

It was a busy day at fire station 911 today...

Firefighter Cooper put our a fire in the attic.
Then, Firefighter Austin came in to assist.
This little fire fighter practiced smiling.

Then it was time to clean the fire engine.
And this little fire fighter did some exercises.
 Training talk time.

Search and rescue practice with "binoculars."

First Real Smile

There are no words for when you get that first real smile from a baby.  The smile that is a happy reaction to seeing your face, your smile.  At seven weeks, I got that first "social smile" from baby Grayson (and luckily I had my phone nearby!).

Ready...
"Oh!  I see Mom!"
 SMILE!

They Said It Could Happen

I've heard of it happening.  I've read about it in books.  My friends have told me about it.  Moms have talked about it during baby playgroups.  People have asked me about it.  I've seen "how-to" articles written about it.  Yet, I wasn't really sure it could actually happen...until now.

Ladies and gentlemen, Grayson Lamb is sleeping through the night.  Yep, that's right.  At a mere seven weeks old, my littlest guy is sleeping through the night.  SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT.  Did you get that?  Did you know this could actually happen?!  I didn't.  My other two wonderful little ones loved their mommy so much they continued to wake during the night for the first twelve months of their lives!  Sure, both Cooper and Austin dropped one feeding around three months of age, but still, they both continued to wake up at some point during the night until around their first birthdays.  But Grayson?  SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT.  I'm talking anywhere from 8-10 hours at night, sleeping through the night.

I really had always thought this was a myth...but no, it actually happens.

Uhhh, Mom...

When I hear this from Cooper, "Uhh, Mom!"  or "Uhhh, Maaammaaaa...", I know the next thing will be, "Austin Buddy... (fill in the blank here)."  And I'll get a full report of whatever mischief my little Austin has gotten himself into.  He is our joyful mess and lives up to that name each and every day...joyfully.

I just adore you, my little joyful mess.

All Three--Picture Perfect

This is what happens sometimes...most times...when I try to take pictures of all three of my completely calm, still, and non-silly boys.  Picture perfect.

Today: August 16, 2013

While Austin was napping, Coop and I took advantage of the fact that it wasn't 100+ degrees outside.  We set out a blanket in the front yard and laid down in the grass with baby Grayson between us.  On his own, Cooper began to tell Grayson about the different trees we saw hanging over us.  He even told Grayson that you can get syrup and honey from trees.  Cooper pointed out when birds were chirping nearby and when an airplane flew overhead.  He picked some grass and showed it to his little brother, "Grayson, this is grass.  Does it tickle your nose?".  Then Coop turned to me and said, "Grayson likes nature.  He's using all his senses to learn about nature."  I love that little boy.

Grayson started to get a little tired, so we went to the porch to rock him.  Cooper picked out two big brown leaves--one for me and one for him.  They were our rocket ships and we were going to fly them to outer space.  While I rocked Grayson, Coop and I flew our leaf rockets to different planets, avoiding meteor showers along the way.

Today was a great day.  It felt normal.  It felt easy.  We've had more good days than difficult ones since adding a new little one to our family, but today was just a little different for some reason.  All the stars aligned and everything, all day, was easy.  And everyone, all day, was happy, well behaved and easy.  Maybe I can do this stay-at-home-mom-of-three thing after all...
