This is How We Roll

July 10, 2013

This was the first time I had all three boys in the car by myself.  We went to feed ducks with Megan and Abby.  Grayson was only nine days old.  I remember turning around and thinking, "Oh my goodness.  We have a full car...of boys."  And off we went on our first fun outing!  (I sent this picture to Annie with the text, "This is how three rolls.

And this was our first dinner out as a family of five.  We went to the mall!  We needed to get out of the house, so we went somewhere where the boys could explore and "play" and we could grab something really quick to eat.  Plus, I think I needed to exchange something...  The boys got to run around in the courtyard area after we ate and we grabbed a quick ice cream before heading home.  But this was another moment, as we were walking in, where it hit me of, "Oh my goodness.  I have three boys and this is what a family of five looks like walking into the mall..."  That's how we roll.

Grayson's First Bath

At four days old, Grayson got his first bath at home.  He let out a few loud squawks just at the very beginning, but he quickly realized baths are nice and relaxing.  He settled in and has enjoyed bath time ever since.  (And, he's actually my first kiddo to love baths from the beginning!)

Coop and Austin were anxious to help bathe their baby brother.

Then, some cuddle time with biggest brother.

"Hold Baby?"

The first day that Austin met Grayson, he was very curious about his new baby brother and examined him very closely.  But it wasn't until the second day when Austin showed any interest in holding Grayson.  I asked Coop first if he wanted to hold Grayson, and after he declined, Austin quickly asked me, "Hold Baby?"  He followed my instructions of hopping up on the bed and held out his arms for his new brother.
He stared at Grayson's little face for awhile, pointing out all of his parts--eyes, nose, mouth, ears.  Even the trucks on his outfit and the puppy faces on his feet.  Luckily, sweet little Grayson didn't mind getting poked by big brother.

When it was time to let go of "baby," this was the look I got.  Austin did not want to let go of his new brother.  Austin's little hands squeezed Grayson tighter, pulled him closer into his own body, and told me, "No.  Hold Baby."  (And still now as I type this, seven weeks later, Austin still asks on a daily basis to "hold baby.")

Going Home with Grayson

Even though Grayson was born on July 1, we were able to go home on July 2.  Really, we had spent two full nights at the hospital, and all tests and required checks of my new little bundle had been completed, so it was time to head home!  Gammi brought the boys up to the hospital so they could help take Mommy and their new baby brother home.

Doctor Cooper was excited to help do a final check-up of baby Grayson.  Luckily, he cleared all of Dr. Cooper's tests.  Phew.  Little "Pilot" Grayson was cleared to leave.
I just adore the look in Cooper's eyes in these pictures.  You can really see the genuine love for and wonder of his new baby brother.
My biggest and my littlest.
Party of FIVE!
