Cooper knew that if he woke up one morning and found Annie and Allan here, that meant Mommy and Daddy were at the hospital to have his new baby brother. So on the morning of July 1, Coop woke up at his normal time and walked into our room. Annie heard him coming, so when he opened the door, she said told him "good morning" and his face lit up. He knew it was time!
Annie had a good morning with the boys, breakfast and a lot of play time! Philip went home around 10:30 that morning so he could tell the boys their baby brother was here and tell them his name. Cooper was still convinced his name would be "Pilot." After Philip told them the baby's name is Grayson, Cooper said, "I like that better than Pilot!" Phew. Philip loaded up the boys and headed to the hospital to meet their new baby brother.
Cooper was so incredibly sweet with his new brother. He was calm, yet excited, and interested and filled with joy.
Austin didn't pay much attention to Grayson when they first walked in, but once he really noticed Grayson, he quickly became curious. Both of the boys climbed in the bed with me and I unwrapped Grayson so they could really see him. Philip videoed everything and I'm so glad he did. It was just the sweetest and most heart-warming moment with the boys. Coop and Austin were so sweet and gentle (without me prompting to be gentle). They touched Grayson's tummy and hands and feet, asked questions about his umbilical cord, and really, really took him in. Austin kept saying, "baby. baby. baby." And pointed to his eyes, nose, mouth, head. He even tried to share his Pirates Booty snack with Grayson at one point. Cooper introduced himself and Austin, telling Grayson they were his big brothers. The pure joy and love both boys showed during that moment makes me one proud mama.
